Is India The Only Rape Capital In The World?

When the Indian government and the Supreme Court imposed a ban on the release of India’s
Daughter, a documentary made by the British Broadcasting Corporation. After the ban, BBC made a number of efforts to attest that the rape culture in India has flourished to its highest peak.

However, even after the ban, the documentary was available on the official YouTube channel of the English news agency. In many other similar clips also, the corporation tried to prove that India is the biggest rape capital in the world.

Since BBC was propagating, the majority started believing this, and the western media started suggesting Dos and Don’ts to their people to have in mind while visiting India. Well, if we scan through the pages of the Indian culture and tradition, we find that there is no place for violence against women in the Indian society.

Although over the time, some impurities have homed in the mindset of the people, and a viable increase can be seen in the instances of rape, molestation, violence and crime against women, yet on the basis of that alone, saying that India is the biggest rape capital will be a strongly objectionable point.

The Democratic Republic Of Congo –

According to the United Nations, every year 40,000 cases of rape are reported in the country. These are the cases that come into view, there are innumerable cases that are never reported. In Congo, Rape is used as a violent tool to calm the opposition, or to prove or enforce the dominance, by the strong. As accepted by the UN, Democratic Republic of Congo is the actual rape capital in the world, where women are in a very pitiable state.

Turkey –

A study reveals, ‘one-third of police officials in turkey believe that some women need to be raped to teach lessons’. Where the saviors have such frame of mind, what will happen to that society?

The United States Of America –

As per a statement, every 6 minutes at least one rape case is registered in the USA. Adding another jaw-dropping fact to it, in the year 2011, as many as 83,425 rape cases were reported nationwide. This somber figure has surpassed the rape score of India, which reported only 24, 206 cases that year. Not to mention, India is a country of 1 billion people and the US has a population of 300 million. Now, you can simply figure out the percentage, and conclude which place is more unsafe.

The United Kingdom –

Yes, we are going to talk about the 'Great' Britain as well. In the year 2006-07, the country registered over 85, 000 rape cases, out of which only 800 rapists were punished and penalized. What happened to the cry of rest 84, 200 women, whose rapists were set free? Didn’t BBC feel like shooting a documentary on this subject with a title ‘Britain’s Daughter’?

There are many other countries having worst-case scenarios than India has. The need is to educate people, especially the kids, and to introduce strict laws to prevent such cowardice enactments.
