What Most SEOs Think About Content Writers?
I've been working as a writer (or for the sake SEO, let's pronounce it a Content Writer), for more than 5 years; initially as a freelancer between 2009 to 2011, and later on, as a full-timer since 2012 till now. I've worked on different profiles, as a news writer, story writer, script writer, play writer and food writer.
I've met and worked with countless SEO professionals and a couple of employers, who believe that writing is just as easy as sharing links or doing social bookmarking. They believe, writing is something that can be done in bulk and in minutes.
I don't want to name anyone or any of my past organisations, but what makes them think that content writing is a 'smoothy' is their lack of understanding. They generally feel -

Writers are labourers, and they can be forced to work - Excuse me! If a content writer works for you, or has agreed to work with your organisation that doesn't mean he's your entity. You want quality and quantity both, but unfortunately, they don't (read:never) come together. You have to pick either excellency or multiplicity. If a writer is forced to write more number of articles - it surely is going to affect your business, because of the poor quality content, which is unacceptable by Google (for whose ranking you're fighting with your competitors using your SEO weapons). Before writing, an author has to conceptualise the business vertical for which he's going to write. And, it takes a good amount of time. Respect his mind, knowledge and efforts, because it is you who have selected him after several rounds of interview.
Writers are shirks - It is the most assumed 'shit' about content writers (please pardon me for the 'S' word, but my name also starts with an 'S', I can't help it). Most of the 'S'ick SEOs and employers believe that if a content writer is scanning through an offbeat website, he/she is wasting his or her time. But, it is a STRONG MESSAGE, which I, on behalf of thousands of content writers, want to convey to most of the sick SEO companies that we are not involved in trivia, we are taking ideas to write more.) Writing is a mind game; and mind has its own boundaries, specially when you write about alien keywords and businesses. Mind needs to relax, in order to produce more write-ups.
Writers shouldn't be getting that package - Another masterpiece! Again I don't want to name anyone or any firm; but here's an interesting ( read: shitty) story. At one of my workplaces, an idiot looking, sick-minded guy, once calculated my monthly salary and the number of my produced daily write-ups, and piped a 'shitty' message to the employer, 'He is getting too much salary than what he actually deserve.' BTW, in that organisation, I was giving my promised numbers of articles, but after his bitching behind the back, I noticed a sea-change in the attitude of my employer. It was the day, I decided that I'd leave the company, when I saw that 'shitty' guy, calculating my per-day/per-article 'wages'. They want content writers to work like superman, but tragically, superman is super-fiction; you can't see him actually for real!
There're more 'stories' and 'shits', running in SEOs' minds. But in my belief and opinion, content writers should focus on producing the quality. Because, the coming age is the online age, when you'd be able to impress the global audience with your work. Not only it will open many doors for you, but also help you earn a reputable name in the industry.
